Many students and colleagues asked me whatstatistics can do in big data and AI? Is business analytics the same asbusiness intelligence? What is the role of statistics in these emerging topics?In this talk, I would like to briefly clarify some basic concepts of currentbuzz words, such as big data, AI, Machine learning, data science, businessanalytics/business intelligence. As an example of statistics innovativeapproaches in data science with respective of business application, a fewon-going applied projects and research project will be introduced briefly.

李明非是美国本特利大学数学系的教授，也是商业分析项目理学硕士的创始主任。她还是美国退伍军人事务部医疗保健组织与实施研究中心的联合调查员和高级统计员。她的研究兴趣集中在统计学习、商业分析和健康分析。目前的项目包括精神疾病的药物研究、客户维护的在线学习算法、中断时间序列的贝叶斯方法、运动分析和音乐分析。
